Ministry of Industry and Trade said that in the first 10 days of February 2019, the pork meat price in the country increases compared to that at the end of January 2019. On 11/02/2019, in the Northern region, pork meat price ranges from VND 47,000 to VND 50,000 / kg, an increase of VND 3,000 / kg compared to the end of January 2019. Pork meat price in the Central and Central Highlands is between VND45,000 and VND 50,000 / kg, an increase of 2,000 VND / kg compared to the end of January 2019.

The pork meat price purchased by the traders from the key animal husbandry areas in the South currently averages from VND 48,000 to VND 53,000 / kg, an increase of VND 3,000 / kg compared to the end of January 2019. Compared to the same period in 2018, pork meat price is 25-30% higher, while pork product price is 7-15% higher. Compared to the end of 2018, the pork price now increases by 6-12%.
It is known the increase in price is due to the market demand increases while animal raising companies have still closed. On the other hand, due to increased demand for processing and consumption, production costs (breed, materials) increase significantly compared to the same period in 2018. Supply of pork products in 2019 is from processing enterprises or farms which accounts for a higher proportion than in 2018. In some provinces, the supply proportion from enterprises even accounts for 80-90%.
According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, in January 2019, buffaloes and cows breeding is not favorable due to the effects of very cold and damaging cold weather; Pig and poultry breeding is generally stable, ensuring supply to meet consumption demand during the Lunar New Year. It is estimated that in 01/2019, the buffaloes in the country decrease by 2.9% compared to the same period in 2018; cows increase by 2.8%; pigs increase by 3.1%; poultries increase by 6.3%.
